Nourishing Caregiver Collaborations by Nawal Qarooni

As we get ready to meet new students and welcome new families into our classroom and school communities, we think Nourishing Caregiver Collaborations: Elevating Home Experiences and Classroom Practices for Collective Care by Nawal Qarooni is a must read. This is a beautiful book for so many reasons. The care that Nawal took in sharing her stories along with stories of her teaching will transform the ways schools partner with families. Nawal goes beyond the typical things we often read under the topic of family engagement and instead advocates for collaborations based on strong, authentic and intentional relationships. 

I was lucky to hear Nawal talk at the ESCCO Summer Literacy Institute last month and to hear her share examples of the ways she values families and includes them as partners in education was powerful. She engages us in rethinking the ways we think about families and how important this is for the children in our care.

This is a great book to read alone or to read as part of a study group for professional development.
